Antigen test (frequently referred to as a rapid test). This test detects protein fragments specific to the Coronavirus. It can be done in a clinic, doctor’s office, or hospital. Turnaround time for results is usually very quick and in some cases, results can be reported within 15 minutes.

PCR test. This tests the RNA (or genetic material) that is specific to the virus and can detect the virus within days of infection, even those who have no symptoms. Turnaround time is longer, generally in 8 hours. When demand is high, results can take up to 24 hours.

What should I do if my staff tests positive?
You should have your staff contact their main health care provider immediately. They may want to run a separate test. Staff that test positive should definitely not return to on-site work.

Is the Nasopharyngeal Swab painful?

No, the swab is placed in an area which does not contain nerve endings causing pain.

What symptoms can the swab cause?

Watery eyes, cough and a small amount of pressure are possible symptoms for a few minutes after the swab test.

Staff did not have symptoms, but tested positive

Over 85% of patients who contract the COVID-19 virus are asymptomatic.

When may the staff come back to work?

Most employers require one or two NEGATIVE swab results before an employee can return to on-site work.
